"I would like to tell you that the first book, 'A Beacon of Hope - Dr. Frank W. Schofield' by Soo Yong Kim is really a remarkable book. I was delighted in the magic of finishing this book in one sitting. This book surpassed my highest expectations.
Dr. Schofield is the only foreign patriot who was buried in Seoul National Memorial Cemetery. Soo Yong Kim digs out deeply the depth and complexity of the life of Dr. Schofield. I think that there has been no book written other than her book describing his passionate, truthful, and faithful life.
Her book is composed of six parts. The first part is 'Dr. Schofield was an ambassador of God sent to Korea' Soo Yong depicts the hidden stories about Dr. Schofield in details vividly laid out while she had a close relationship with him when she was young.
The second part of her book is 'Truth from History'. She discloses the core truth from various histories with her keen observations. I realized that 'The pen is mightier than the sword' through her writings.
The third part of her book is 'Travel Sketches'. Soo Yong Kim displays her many writing talents here as she entertain us with her wit and humor. Her style is so enjoyable and I could not wait to finish one section to get to the next.
The Fourth part of her book is 'Comments on movie and Literary Works'. Here she reviews a movie and two literary works. The scenes of the movie and two literary works are so realistic that they lead to suspense and thrills. The brilliance of her writing technique is absolutely awesome.
The fifth part of her book is 'My essays and a poem'. The essays are very touching and the poem, 'The Bent Back of my Mother' is a stand-out. Contrasting the mother's back to hump on the back of the camel reminds us of burdens and heavy loads each carries. Clearly, Soo Yong Kim understands the love, loyalty, sacrifices all mothers make for their children, as her mother did. I recommend this poem should be edited in the textbook of the elementary state school. The young children should recite this poem as a token of their love for mother. This poem is really a wonderful masterpiece.
The sixth part of her book is 'Miracle of God'. Soo Yong Kim tells about her own personal miracle. God's deliverance from her dangerous predicament is amazing. This is an incredible testimony of her faith. They are touching and inspiring stories and lead to the climax of this book." By critic, Dr. Ohm, Won Ji
